Artist in Youth Work Residency Scheme-Funding Awarded

The Arts programme would like to extend a big thank you to all the organisations who submitted applications to the latest round of the Artist in Youth Work Residency Scheme. The application process can be a long one and we received a large number of high-quality applications. Following the application process, the independent panel was convened in late June and eleven organisations from across Ireland were awarded funding for projects in 2011/2012.

The Panel included representation from both the youth arts and youth work sectors and was made up of Alison Fox, Youth Officer with County Wicklow VEC, Victoria Durrer, Youth Arts Coordinator with South Dublin County Council, Ger MaGee, Youth Work Manager with Catholic Youth Care and included for the first time since the Scheme was developed, a youth voice-Darren Scully, who has worked with Axis Ballymun and who is currently undertaking an internship with Headstrong.

A second round of funding for the 2011/2012 Scheme will be made available in September 2011 and we encourage any organisation’s who are considering applying and have any questions or queries about the scheme or the application process to contact the programme over the summer months.

For any queries regarding the scheme or applying for funding through the scheme, please contact Fiona Smith, Youth Arts Project Officer by emailing fiona@nyci.ie

Youth arts can broadly be defined as young people taking part voluntarily in creative, cultural or expressive activity outside of the formal education process. It can encompass participation and appreciation, as well as engagement with arts work specifically created by, with or for young people.
