Arts Council Announce Orlaith McBride as New Director

The Arts Council has announced the appointment of Orlaith McBride as its new Director. The appointment was approved by the Arts Council following an application and interview process and she will take up her position this September.

Orlaith McBride has worked in the arts for over 15 years across a broad range of arts organisations including local authorities, arts-in-education, youth arts and theatre. She has produced the National Youth Theatre at the Peacock Theatre since 2007. She is the President of the National Youth Council of Ireland, and a member of the National Youth Work Advisory Committee. She served as a member of the Arts Council for over 7 years, was a member of the Dublin City Council Strategic Policy Committee (Arts and Youth) and was a member of the Arts Council Special Committee on the Arts and Education.

Youth arts can broadly be defined as young people taking part voluntarily in creative, cultural or expressive activity outside of the formal education process. It can encompass participation and appreciation, as well as engagement with arts work specifically created by, with or for young people.
