Junior Galway Film Fleadh
The Junior Galway Film Fleadh (JGFF) creates annually a programme of screenings and workshops which are enlightening, educational and entertaining aimed at young people from ages 13 – 18 years. Young people are catered for as a distinctive cinema going audience encouraging them to become involved in film through screenings, workshops and other related activities (eg script competition).
The JGFF introduces youth audiences to non main-stream cinema and helps develop in them a critical awareness of film. It also aims to educate young people in the art of storytelling through the media of film and video production. Teacher and parental involvement is encouraged through Q+A sessions, a script competition and teachers’ notes and workbooks that accompany the films.
This year’s festival runs from 3rd– 6th November 2010 in Galway’s Town Hall Theatre.
As ever The JGFF plays host to a wide range of short films showcasing the many talents of youth groups, schools and individuals. Shorts from Trading Faces Stage School in Galway, the Fresh Film Festival alongside animation from award winning artist John Jennings and flying films squads from The Galway Film Centre will screen. Short films as gaeilge will also be screened.
Workshopsthis year include Acting for the Screen, the ever popular Make Up for Film + TV, and Animation. We are also delighted to host a Radio Production Workshop with producer/presenter Garry Kelly from Galway Bay FM.
The JGFF’s third annual Story Pitching Competition which gives young people between the ages of 13 – 18 years a chance to pitch their story idea (feature, documentary, short, tv series or novel idea) to an audience of their peers will take place on Thursday 4thNovember in conjunction with SpunOut (a leading national youth organisation)
