Opportunities with Kildare Youth Theatre/ Crooked House

Crooked House Young Playwrights’ & Directors' Programme:

Are you aged between 14 and 26? Would you like to write a play or a musical?  Crooked House Theatre Company (CHTC) in Newbridge is making an open call to all young playwrights and would-be playwrights to create a new play or musical that will be staged in October 2012 as part of a Festival of new work by young writers. Applications close on Dec 31st 2011.

From January to May CHTC will work with and support selected writers through a mentorship programme. This will consist of a series of workshops, and email correspondence, giving feedback and advice on drafts and on ideas. Completed plays should be finalised by the end of May 2012. From June to October plays will be selected for casting, rehearsal and staging. The members of Kildare Youth Theatre will be cast in the plays.

 

CHTC will work with young directors through the summer of 2012, supporting and mentoring them in their work to bring the writers play or musical to performance. During the mid-term break from 29th Oct – 3rd Nov the plays will be staged for the public.

Apply with your name, contact details (phone, email and postal address), date of birth and any ONE (or more – if you wish) of the following:

• A short description of a play or musical you’d like to write
• A paragraph on why you’d like to try writing a play or musical
• A paragraph about a theme or idea you’d like to explore in a play or musical
• A page of sample dialogue
• A previous play or musical you’ve written.

Applicants for the Young Directors' Programme should apply in the same way stating why they'd be interested in taking part in the programme.

This programme is open to all young people aged 14 to 26. You do not have to be a member of Kildare Youth Theatre to take part. You must have a working email address. For further information call 045 446612 or 087 2759420.

Design a Logo Competition:

Calling all would-be graphic designers: Kildare Youth Theatre are looking for you to design them a new. Use your imagination and skills to come up with what you think would be an appropriate logo for our youth theatre. The competition is open to all young people aged 13 to 25, whether or not they are a member of Kildare Youth Theatre. The logo should incorporate the words “Kildare Youth Theatre.” The logo may, should you wish, include “Crooked House” and/or “Rise above your play station” 

Selected entries will be chosen from those submitted and they will be displayed on our Facebook page for members to vote on. The three most popular designs will then be assessed by a panel including a professional Graphic Designer and the board of Crooked House. The winning logo design will earn its creator €100.
